LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Swipe Films been appointed international sales agent for the Egyptian movie "Winter of Discontent," which will have its world premiere at the 69th Venice International Film Festival this week, the company said Friday.

Set against the backdrop of the growing protests in Cairo's Tahrir Square in January 2011, the film takes the viewer on a journey into the intertwined lives of an activist, a journalist and a state security officer caught up in the demonstrations.

It was directed by Ibrahim El Batout, who has paved the way for Egyptian independent cinema by challenging censorship and discussing social issues on camera.

In 2010, his third feature film, "Hawi," won the Best Arab Film award at the second Doha Tribeca Film Festival, as well as more than a dozen other awards internationally.

Prior to 2004, he was a documentary filmmaker who covered war zones from Iran to Iraq and Kosovo. He turned to features after being shot twice.

"This was a project that came together organically as political change overcame Egypt," Amr Waked, who stars in the film and also served as a producer, said in a statement.

"Winter of Discontent" began shooting in Tahrir Square the day before Mubarak stepped down from power.

"The characters and the storyline took shape as political events changed on a daily basis," Waked said. "Audiences will get to witness the often surreal atmosphere of terror and uncertainty that characterized the last days of Mubarak's rule."

The mother of a child victim of the Moors murderers was buried in Manchester on Thursday after she died without fulfilling her dearest wish of finding out where her son's body was hidden.

Friends and family of Winnie Johnson, whose son Keith Bennett was killed aged 12 in 1964, said goodbye in a service at the Manchester church where Keith attended Sunday school before his death.

Johnson died of cancer on August 18, aged 78, after almost five decades of campaigning and searching for Keith's resting place on Saddleworth Moor.

Her son was abducted and killed by Moors murderers Ian Brady and Myra Hindley, who later confessed to the crime but never told her where on the moor they had hidden his body.

Canon Ian Gomersall, rector of St Chrysostom's church, told mourners he would not name at her funeral "the perpetrators of that evil".

"What I will do is pay tribute to this remarkable woman. I know my words of tribute will be shared by so many people," he said.

"I pay tribute to Winnie's courage and determination to bring her son back to her family. I pay tribute to Winnie and her family's resolve to give Keith a final resting place, which has been an inspiration to so many over the years, and we thank God for this encouraging example."

Family, friends and fellow members of Johnson's much-loved bingo club heard tributes to the former cleaner and hospital kitchen worker who was also mother to four other children.

Hindley died in prison in 2002 but Brady, 74, is still alive, despite being tube-fed for the past twelve years as he has been refusing food. He is fighting to be transferred to prison from a secure hospital and allowed to die.

Police revealed just a day before Johnson's death that they were investigating the possibility Brady had revealed Keith's burial place in a sealed letter handed to his mental health advocate.

But Johnson was too ill to be told, and died without knowing of the fresh investigation.

Between 1963 and 1965, Brady and Hindley lured five children and teenagers to their deaths, burying four of them on remote moorland near Manchester. All of the bodies apart from Keith's were found.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) ? Country star Trace Adkins and entertainer Kristin Chenoweth are returning as hosts of the American Country Awards.

This is the third year for the awards show. It will air this December on Fox from Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Adkins calls Chenoweth a "firecracker comedienne" and says he is looking forward to cutting loose with her again. The pair hosted the show together last year.

Chenoweth says she plans to "pull out all the stops to make sure everyone has a good time."

Fans will be able to vote for the winners. Jason Aldean came out on top last year, taking home six awards including artist and album of the year. Nominees, performers and a show date will be announced soon.

In the first match against the Border Academy that was played at BuffaloPark in East London on Thursday SWD scored 213/9 but the home team replied with 215/2 for an eight wicket victory. In the second match on Friday Gareth Dukes (7/18) and Marcello Piedt (3/32) were in awesome form with the ball when Border was dismissed for only 64. SWD replied with 67/4 for a comprehensive 6 wicket victory.?

In the first match at Alice which was played on Sunday the Border Fort Hare Academy defeated SWD by 712 runs.? Fort Hare scored 281/7 and dismissed SWD for only 109. SWD, however fought back and won the second encounter by 8 runs after a great bowling performance by Gurshwin Sparks (4/32) and Dukes (2/39). SWD, thanks to a valuable contribution by Kobus Scholtz (59) scored 209/9 and dismissedFortHarefor 201.?

SWD BLACK AFRICAN CRICKET PROGRAM EXTENDED TOWARDS BITOU

As part of the South Western Districts Cricket Board (SWDCB) development plan an emphasis has being placed on the development of Black Africans cricketers in the province. Its only being four seasons since the SWDCB has being running the program. Both Thembalethu Cricket Club and Bongolethu Cricket Club finished third in their respective legs of the promotion league and in both seasons. Thembalethu has participated in the T20 competition they made it to the second phase of the competition this statistics if great when compared to most promotion league clubs that has being participating for longer in the structures. The completion of facilities in Thembalethu, Bongolethu and Kwanonqaba is also a huge step forward in the quest to ensure the interest of the game increases in the communities.?

The SWDCB has also targeted its third demographic area in Mossel Bay, this shows the commitment of the Board to the development in the Black African communities. The extension of the program to Bitou (Plettenberg Bay) is also part of the planning process for the 2012/13 season. The program was recently launched in the Bitou region.?

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - The surprising box office success this weekend of "2016: Obama's America," a documentary challenging the president's record, is propelling its producers to further widen its reach on the eve of the Republican National Convention.

"We're going to go where the demand takes us," Mark Joseph, who is leading marketing for the film, told TheWrap Sunday, "and right now, there is a lot of demand."

With its catchphrase - "Love Him. Hate Him. You Don't Know Him" - the right-wing "2016" burned past the per-screen average of the studio sequel "Expendables 2" and came within a hair's breadth of newcomer "Premium Rush" in total ticket sales.

How did that happen? Based on conservative author Dinesh D'Souza's book, "The Roots of Obama's Rage," the documentary purports to show what the nation will be like should President Obama be re-elected, and includes an interview with the president's half brother, George Obama.

With the Republican convention convening this week in Tampa, independent distributor Rocky Mountain Pictures on Friday expanded it from 169 to 1,091 screens. It took in $6.2 million over the three days for a per-screen average of $5,940 -- the best of any film in wide release, including the No. 1 film, "Expendables 2."

Juiced by advance sales, "2016" on Friday raced past the projections of industry analysts, most of whom predicted a $4 million weekend.

D'Souza co-directed with John Sullivan. Produced for a reported $2.1 million, "2016" has made $9.3 million since its release seven weeks ago, and has surpassed "Bully" as the year's top-earning documentary.

The film played most strongly in a range of states that were varied geographically as well in terms of red and blue. They included New York, Washington, Louisiana and Kansas, according to Joseph, who headed the marketing campaign along with Sullivan.

He discounted reports that there were religious groups shepherding moviegoers to the film and that others were bused in. He said the only effort organized by his company was a Los Angeles call center designed to get the word out.

The Rocky Mountain team will huddle Monday and set a course for future expansion, but Joseph left no doubt they intended to be aggressive and put the movie into even more theaters.

So how indicative is the film's popularity of the country's feeling about President Obama?

It may be more of a box-office coup than a bellwether for the nation's political pulse, according to left-leaning documentary filmmaker Robert Greenwald ("Steal This Movie," "Uncovered: The Whole Truth About the Iraq War") of Brave New Films.

"Why? It isn't designed to bash Obama, it's more about information," he told TheWrap on Sunday. "My dream is that people will go into it with an open mind. I want people to learn to care, to learn to understand about whoever is going to lead this country."

Greenwald acknowledged that documentaries in general can have value in terms of rallying the base, and "2016" appears to have done that.

Rush Limbaugh, for example, has been a vocal proponent of the film.

"People are seeing it that have never, ever, been exposed to this kind of discussion or criticism or explanation for who Obama is," Limbaugh said on his radio program last week, urging his listeners to buy a ticket (he also urged them to go see "Expendables 2.")

And Glenn Beck, in an interview with D'Souza, called the documentary an "election-season bomb." He compared it Michael Moore's 2004 film "Farenheit 9/11," which was highly critical of President George W. Bush.

That film is the highest-grossing political documentary of all time, and took in $119 million domestically and $222 million at the worldwide box office.

But the differences between "2016: Obama's America" and "Farenheit 9/11" go beyond their box office grosses, Greenwald told TheWrap.

"'Fahrenheit 9/11' was the exception because it didn't speak to electoral politics, it spoke about the war," he said.

And it's worth noting that despite the big box-office numbers posted by "Farenheit," Bush still won the election.

For three days, he said they folded his body into the hole of a car tire and beat him with sticks. They let him go after he signed a pledge to stop protesting.

But they caught him at another protest a week later and he said they hung him naked on a wall for more beatings. Twelve days later, he was freed in a prisoner exchange between the regime and the rebels.

That was six months ago.

Ahmed al-Saleh, 22, said he wanted to go to university after he graduated from high school but didn't have the money to pay for it or the grades to get the government to do so. When the uprising started, he said he supported it "in his heart" but kept quiet.

MENLO PARK, Calif. (AP) ? What's the worst insult you can throw at a fast-moving company like Facebook? Call its iPhone app slow and poky.

On Thursday, Facebook Inc. addressed users who had gripes with its app for iPhones and iPads with the launch of a faster version. Rather than add a slew of new features, the company said it rebuilt the application from scratch to make it speedier and less clunky.

In a recent demonstration at the company's Menlo Park, Calif., headquarters, the new iPhone app opened about twice as fast as the older version. Photos and comments also load faster. Users can now "like" comments on photos, which wasn't possible with the previous mobile app.

Mick Johnson, mobile product manager at Facebook, said programmers removed some lesser-used features, such as a way to view the app horizontally, to help speed it up.

The mobile arena presents Facebook with its biggest challenge ?and its biggest opportunity. That's where its user base is growing the most. At the end of June, Facebook had 543 million users who accessed it with a phone or tablet computer, up 67 percent from 325 million a year earlier. Its overall user base grew 29 percent over the same time period, to 955 million.

But while Facebook ads are well-established on its website, the company only recently started experimenting with mobile advertisements. That's been a concern for investors, who've sent Facebook's stock down by nearly half since the company's initial public offering three months ago.

The iPad version of the new app now features Timeline, the latest version of the profile page that Facebook is rolling out to all of its users.

The app is available for free from Apple's App Store.

Still absent from Facebook's app is any integration of Instagram. That's because Facebook hasn't closed the acquisition of the photo-sharing app. Though it got a step closer Wednesday, when the Federal Trade Commission said it has closed its investigation into Facebook's planned acquisition.

The FTC said it is not taking action on the deal, which can now go forward as planned. Facebook has agreed to buy Instagram in a cash and stock deal worth about $748 million, based on Facebook's stock price on Thursday. The price tag had been about $1 billion when the companies initiated the deal before Facebook's IPO, in April.

Over the next 10 years China is planning to invest RMB 4000 billion (DKK 3770 billion) in water technology and know-how. A series of water events in the autumn will be held, in order for Denmark to show and share its competencies with China.

With 20 percent of the world's population and only about seven percent of the world's water resources, China is experiencing an annual water shortage of an average of 30-40 billion cubic meters. Only half of China's wastewater is treated, reducing water quality and the supply of drinking water.

To face these challenges, China and EU established the China-Europe Water Platform (CEWP) in spring this year, with a Chinese-Danish lead. China needs solutions within Groundwater Management, Water Savings, Water Leakage and Water Treatment. Danish water technology competencies are world class, and therefore the Trade Council in China organizes a series of events, which will open the Chinese water market up for Danish companies.

From 25-28 September 2012 the International Yellow River Forum is conducted. It is held in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. High-ranking representatives from China, Europe and Denmark will participate. At the Yellow River Forum around 2.000 participants are expected, and the event makes a focused frame for players in the Chinese water market to get connected.
In connection with the forum a Danish lead thematic session on Groundwater Management will be held. The idea is to discuss the Chinese challenges around Groundwater Management and also position the Danish driven pilot project on mapping the groundwater in China.
