BYD intros dual-mode electric Qin vehicle, Remote Driving key for outside-the-car operation

The New York Auto Show may be done and over with, but the 2012 Beijing International Auto Show is just hitting its stride. Predictably, BYD is attendance, and it's got a couple of new gizmos out of the red carpet. For starters, there's the Qin (pronounced "Chin," not Kin), a dual-mode electric vehicle that includes seven percent better efficiency, power and energy-saving in pure EV mode compared to the first generation's F3DM system. All told, the vehicle car scoot some 31 miles on a single 10KWh charge, and in hybrid mode, it can use both its 110KW electric motor and its 1.5 Turbo engine to output some 223KW of power and 440Nm of torque. For the technophiles, the car is also equipped with an intelligent cloud system platform, which incorporates things like "telematics, cloud-computing and a full-range of services 24 hours a day (like roadside assistance, vehicle positioning, remote monitoring, music and video downloads etc.)."

As if that weren't enough, the outfit's showcasing a new Remote Driving Controller for its F3 Plus, which enables owners to perform a variety of driving functions -- moving it forward / back, turning left / right and traveling at a "restricted speed" -- without having the owner inside of the vehicle. Naturally, we're anxiously awaiting a test unit of our own. Or, for a wave of lawsuits -- whichever comes first.

Asus Transformer Pad TF300 launching in the UK in May

Asus' latest tablet offering, the Transformer Pad TF300, has only been with us for a day and a night now. Thankfully for those of us on the European side of the Atlantic, release information has started to emerge with the news of its UK launch. 

The slightly cheaper, slightly less spec'd version of the Transformer Prime will be with us in stores in Blighty from "late may." The tablet will be exclusive -- at least initially anyway -- to the Dixons group of retailers, including high street chains PC World and Currys. The TF300 will go on sale online from "early may" with the devices being available to purchase in the groups physical stores later in the month.

The device will hit other retailers from "late June" -- notice a pattern here? No exact dates are being tossed around at the moment, but we'll surely find out soon enough. As with the US, the Royal Blue version will be on sale initially, followed by the Iceberg White and Torch Red in June and July respectively.

So what about the price? Including the keyboard dock, the TF300 will set you back £399. In all honesty, that isn't a bad price at all when the dock is included. This week on Khloe & Lamar, the tandem took a brief hiatus from having emotional talks about babies to get all emotional about Odom's return to L.A.

"I got a game coming up versus the L.A. Lakers, my former team," he says of his first game back. "It's going to be a little weird playing against them."

How did Lamar do against Kobe Bryant, Metta World Peace & Co.? It almost didn't matter, given the warm reception he was given at Staples Center.

Khloe Kardashian feels tense once they're back in their home and reality starts to sink in, saying, "I can't really imagine how that feels and the pressure." It doesn't compare to the paparazzi following you to the Ivy, no. Plus 20.

Maybe things will work out in Dallas after all ... or not. Of course, we all know how this saga ends - Lamar leaving the team. Oh well. Minus 60.

Nokia releases Browser 2.0 update for Series 40 handsets with improved speed, multitasking in tow

Nokia announced earlier today the release of Browser 2.0 for its Series 40 devices, which of course includes the colorful Asha lineup. The update promises an overall speedier and easier browsing experience, this in large part due to the application condensing data by up to 90 percent. In addition to these enhancements, there's also a novel Download Manager in the refresh, giving users the ability to choose where they'd like to save content without leaving the app. Also included in the update is a new multitasking-while-browsing feature (finally!), as well as a social-sharing bit that lets you push out page URLs to sites like Twitter, Facebook, Sina Weibo and RenRen. Browser 2.0 will be native on future Series 40s, but for now those whom already own a small chunk of the 1.5 billion can grab the goods from the Nokia Store or wait for the OTA package to hit your device.

It's not like we're gonna argue with Sprint's rationale, but the EVO 3D has met its end at the Now Network. Visitors to the carrier's online store will notice that the gee-whiz smartphone is no longer available for sale, and Sprint reps have confirmed to us that it's not coming back. Those who insist on owning an EVO 3D will be glad to know that the handset is still available at Sprint's retail outlets, but according to the carrier, quantities are rather limited. Given a phone that debuted less than a year ago, its abrupt and unceremonious demise comes as a bit of a shock, but with the mighty EVO 4G LTE on the horizon, we can't blame the carrier one bit.
