Sex.com says 'pins' banned from Pinterest

5 hrs.

If you visit Sex.com, and we're not recommending you do, you'll notice the site looks like a Pinterest for porn. That seems to be its aim since the porn site?relaunched last spring. Users can "add any picture or video from the Web" to their personal, virtual pinboard. Now the site says its pins have been banned from being shared?on Pinterest, one of the fastest growing social networks around.

It's not that Pinterest doesn't have artsy, sensual photos on the site. It does. But type in the word "sex" in Pinterest's search box, and you get this response:?

Pinterest does not allow nudity. Pinning or repinning photographs displaying breasts, buttocks or genitalia may result in the termination of your Pinterest account.

Furthermore, the site says on one of its Help pages:

Our no-nudity policy applies to photographic images. It does not apply to illustrations, paintings, sculptures, etc. We do not allow nude photographic?images that contain exposed nipples, genitalia, and/or fully exposed buttocks.

But Sex.com is yowling over what it says is a ban from Pinterest that just happened "a few days ago."

On its blog, Sex.com says that over the summer, its Web team noticed Sex.com users were pinning "adult content" on Pinterest, and was "excited to see some users crossover," between the two sites, but that a "few days ago our crossover was shudown by Pinterest. They have banned Sex.com, declaring our site to be spam."

Sex.com says it wants answers and can't get them from Pinterest.?

Pinterest spokesman Barry Schnitt told NBC News Thursday in an email that Pinterest "doesn't?allow nudity or pornography. Never has. In fact, I don't know any social site that does. I'm not sure what the confusion is about here,?but we're proud of our position on the issue and of our efforts to keep the site clean. Seems most of the commenters here agree."
